  • Escape of Marvin the Ape Board Book

    Caralyn Buehner, Mark Buehner

Board book (Dial, Oct. 18, 2007)
An ape has escaped from the city zoo! No, it’s not Curious George. It’s another charmer named Marvin, and he’s celebrating his fifteenth year of silliness. This book was the very first collaboration for husband-and-wife team Mark and Caralyn Buehner, and their imagination and humor were already on full display. As gigantic gorilla Marvin manages to hide himself from the police on the subway, at the toy store, on the ferry, and at the ball game, the simple text and bold, funny illustrations are just right for this new board-book edition.

  • Would I Ever Lie to You?

    Caralyn Buehner, Jack E. Davis

Hardcover (Dial Books, May 10, 2007)
When your cousin is always telling outrageous tales, how do you know what to believe? He says you were hatched from an egg in the garden, and that sure sounds absurd. But not all of his stories are false: He was right about your aunt Mary not having teeth; and Dad agreed with him that, yes, your mom does have eyes in the back of her head! So when Ed tells you that your dessert—the piece of pie you’ve been looking forward to all meal long—is full of poison, what should you do? In this spirited, silly book, the little kid finally gets to turn the tables on the big bully. And revenge is sweet as pie!

  • Superdog The Heart Of A Hero

    Caralyn Buehner

    Paperback (Scholastic, Jan. 1, 2006)
PreSchool-Grade 3--Dexter the dachshund is an underdog--literally. Cleevis the tomcat enjoys demonstrating how he can stand right over Dex and not even ruffle his fur. What the pooch lacks in size, however, he makes up for in determination, and when he decides to stop just dreaming of being a hero and devote his life to becoming one, he is unstoppable. The first step on his journey is the library, where the poodle who assists him is wearing glasses and sports what looks suspiciously like a bun. He sets himself a strict exercise regime, pushing himself to the limit: "Even at bedtime, when he wanted to flop on the rug with his tongue hanging out, Dex forced himself to circle five extra times." He finally achieves his goal (his muscle-man poses are priceless), dons a Superdog suit, and proceeds to use his hard-earned prowess for the good of all. When he eventually comes to the rescue of a stranded Cleevis, a new partnership is formed with "twice the brains and triple the brawn." The story line may be a bit predictable, but the Buehners' considerable talents render it fresh and funny. The author has created a lovable and memorable character in the endearing and stalwart Dex, and the illustrator's retro-style artwork is charming. As in Fanny's Dream (Dial, 1996), he has added to the fun by hiding cats, rabbits, and even a Tyrannosaurus rex in the clouds and shadows. This dynamic combination of heart and humor should not be missed.

  • Snowmen At Work with Read Alond Cd

    Caralyn Buehner, Mark Buehner

Audio CD (Scholastic, Aug. 16, 2012)
If you were a snowman, what job would you choose? Ten years ago, on the publication of Snowmen at Night, we discovered the secret lives of snowmen. While we humans sleep, the snowmen go sledding, play baseball, and drink cocoa. But now it's revealed that snowmen don't just play all night--they have jobs to do, just like the parents of human kids. Dentists replace missing coal from snowman smiles while pet store owners help pair snowkids with their very own snowpuppy or snowfish to love. The pizza man delivers frozen pizza, and factory workers make the coolest toys in town. This fourth book in the New York Times bestselling Snowmen series is a gleeful, goofy delight. Kids will love spotting the silly details in each illustration, and the hidden pictures too. Paperback and audio CD.
